Dr B. Bakotic graduated as valedictorian from the Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in 1992. He went on to study Osteopathy at the University of New England where he matriculated cum laude. After completing a composite residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Tufts Medical School and Miami Mount Sinai, he traveled to Manhattan where he gained fellowship training in oncologic surgical pathology and dermatopathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology/Columbia University, respectively. He is currently board-certified in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology, and is the only podiatrist in the nation to hold specialty board certification in dermatopathology.

Dr W. Bakotic has followed his older brother’s career path in many respects. He was accepted, early entry, into Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine within which he completed his bachelor’s degree and began his studies in podiatric medicine. He left podiatry training prior to graduation to study Osteopathy at the University of New England in 1997. His time within podiatry school, set the stage for an interest in podiatric pathology which remains today. After completing his Doctor of Osteopathy, he studied anatomic and clinical pathology at Emory University, where he remained for fellowship training in cytopathology and dermatopathology. He is board certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, and dermatopathology.

Dr Hackel attended Mercer University School of Medicine where he graduated in 1995. Upon graduation he studied anatomic and clinical pathology at Saint Joseph’s Hospital where he completed his training in 2000. In July of 2000, Dr. Hackel joined Dr Bakotic at the prestigious Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology/Columbia University where he completed his fellowship training in 2001. He has been an important part of Dr Bakotic’s podiatric pathology team for most of their respective careers. Dr Hackel holds specialty boards in anatomic and clinical pathology, and subspecialty boards in dermatopathology.
